05 November 2010 | Fireworks in Amsterdam

Fireworks were going off in Amsterdam as The Erith Group had a hugely successful night at the World Demolition Awards in Amsterdam scooping 3 awards and being highly commended in a fourth.

Awards for the Lafarge Cement Works and Central London projects in the Industrial Demolition andUrban/Confined Space categories respectively were followed by the prestigious Demolition Contractor of the Year Award. In addition the judges awarded Erith a Highly Commended in the Demolition Training category.

Covering over 34 Hectares and involving over 70 structures the Lafarge Cement Works Project tested Erith's  skills across the spectrum of demolition techniques including; Explosive Demolition, Remote Demolition, Dismantling, Asbestos Removal. The close proximity of neighbours including businesses, schools and residents made programming even more complex, however not a single complaint was received during the 18 month time period.

The Central London project presented a very different set of challenges, located in London's Regent Street the site was passed by approximately 250,000 pedestrians and tens of thousands of cars every day requiring a detailed traffic management plan from the outset. In addition to demolition the contract involved retaining the Grade 1 listed facade, enabling works, underpinning and extensive asbestos removal. 3d computer visualisiation video was used to plan the project and also to enable the client and other stakeholders to understand our approach and visualise the sequencing.

These successes as well as our approach to training and Health and Safety, innovation, customer care and other successful projects such as Pfizer and Blackfriars Station assisted us in proving that we deserved the Demolition Contractor of the Year Award as well.

The judging panel was made up of some of the leading figures in the world of demolition and Erith faced stiff opposition from some of the world's leading demolition companies across 3 continents. The four successful awards represented all the categories in which we had entered and been nominated.

The judges commented that Erith had:

"By far the best submission, notable for the high level of client satisfaction. Their excellent early interaction and communication with clients made the jobs go exceptionally well."

Erith's Managing Director, David Darsey commented "This is just reward for a hard year in which Erith has completed some of the most important contracts in the country and demonstrates the strength and flexibility of the Erith Team."
